Announcements
Lions, I am the LCIF Coordinator for this great District N-1. Many of you have heard about the Canadian Friends of Lion Clubs International Foundation that is coming into being.
We are waiting for the last step of the process to be complete – status as a Canadian Registered Charitable Organization; this will enable the Canadian Friends of LCIF to issue Canadian tax receipts for income tax purposes. We will hope to partner with the Canadian Government to match donations for disaster relief. We can be included for Estate Planning and Trust planning, and really start seeking Corporate and non-Lion support here in Canada.
In the meantime, your donations to LCIF are as important as always. LCIF programs make a difference all over the world as well as right here at home.
There is a new donor recognition program for individuals initiated by LCIF. The recognition takes the form of lapel pins:
- Bronze for $20. USD donations
- Silver for $50. USD donations
- Gold for $100. USD donations
For any Lion who wants to donate to LCIF and finds a Melvin Jones Award is too large a step to make, this new recognition makes it possible for many Lions to give to LCIF, at their own pace.
Many of us donate to many causes $20.00 here, $50.00 there – the demands are endless, and so worthwhile. Now you can contribute to LCIF the same way.
The process to donate is simple. I have the forms and Bronze pins and can order Silver and Gold pins as needed.
Three important things:
-through LCIF you can help the world.
-through LCIF your Community can be helped.
-through me, you can learn more about LCIF and what you and your Club can do for the foundation, and what LCIF can do for your Community LCIF Coordinator.
I would be very interested in meeting with your Club or Zone to present LCIF to you
Lion Norah Davidson-Wright

FREDERICTON BOYS & GIRLS STUDENT ADVANCE IN
LIONS INTERNATIONAL PEACE POSTER CONTEST
Fredericton, November 14, 2007 – Rebakah Godin a member of the Fredericton Boys and Girls Club has taken the first step to becoming an internationally recognized artist by winning a competition sponsored by the Fredericton Lions Club.
Godin’s poster was among the more than 375,000 entries submitted world wide in the 20th annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Lions Clubs International is sponsoring the contest to emphasise the importance of world peace to young people everywhere.
“Everyone has the right to have peace,” the 11 year old from Fredericton said. The poster was selected for its originality, artistic merit and portrayal of the contest theme “Peace Around the World.”
Fredericton Lions Club President Karl Bowland said he was impressed by the expression and creativity of the participants at the Fredericton Boys and Girls Club. “It is obvious that these young people have strong ideas what peace means to them. I’m so proud that we were able to provide them with the opportunity to share their visions.”
Godin’s poster will advance to face stiff competition through the district, multiple district and international rounds of competition if she is to be declared the international grand prize winner,” Bowland said.
One grand prize winner and 23 merit award winners will be selected. The grand prize includes a cash award of US$2,500.00 plus a trip for the winner and two family winners to New York City, New York, USA for the awards ceremony at the Lions Day with the United Nations. The 23 merit award winners will receive a certificate and a cash award of US $500.00.
“Our club is cheering for Rebakah as her poster advances in the competition, and we hope that her vision will ultimately be shared with others around the world.” Bowland said.
